Yancey County and the surrounding region offer an astonishing number of interesting things to see and do, from sports to shopping. There are two areas, though, that we have in unusual abundance: Natural Beauty and Artistic Talent.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is an excellent way to take in the beauty of the area. The Parkway runs from the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park further south, but the section we have right here, between Grandfather Mountain and Mount Mitchell is one of the most scenic of the entire Parkway. A good day trip is to take the Parkway to Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi. Click on the links below for more information.
For hiking, biking, fishing, golf and other outdoor activities, plenty of information is available at the Heart and Soul Bookstore and at the Chamber of Commerce, both on West Main Street.
With well over 200 artist's studios in Yancey County, some have called us the "Crafts Capital of the World". A good place to find an artist or artwork that you are interested in is right here at ATOC. Our staff is well aquainted with the arts and artists of the area and can point you in the right direction. We even have maps to studios. More information about the arts is available on the the Toe River Arts Council website. Check out the Arts Calender while you are there. Come visit us in the beautiful mountains of Burnsville.
